SCU Labor Day 5K

My Labor Day festivities didn't include sleeping in this year. I woke up at 6am to put on my running gear. That's right! Today I participated in a Labor Day 5K sponsored by Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, OK.
I didn't pick up my registration packet and bib number on Friday so I just got there a little early today to take care of all that. Aunt Amy also registered for this race. She always guarantees a good time. Love that woman! She is such an inspiration and positive influence in my life.

The gun went off a few minutes after 7:30. Now, I have to say that I haven't been running lately because it's tough to find the time. Well, let me rephrase that.... the time is there, I just choose to sleep. I'm just waiting to get a little more used to my schedule and not be drained from teaching 400 elementary kids. Once I adjust a little better I'll be back on the running trails. So, with that being said, I did NOT run the entire way. I probably walked 1 - 1 1/2 miles of the course. And whoever said that Oklahoma was flat was NOT a runner. There were some hills and the wind was blowing like crazy. That slows me down big time. Oh well... My mission isn't to be fast, it's to finish and be healthy. The fact that I was out there on the 3.1 mile course is better than being a sleepy head in my bed. The good news is that I DID get in some great cardio and burn some calories. Woohoo!
There's another 5K on Sept. 18 and I think I'm going to sign up. I need goals.

Me and Amy with her coworkers. They've become my running buddies that I look forward to seeing at local races. They are amazing and super sweet!
